Hey E5'ers! It was another successful Charity Bootcamp here at Element 5 Fitness this past Saturday, November 17th. What cause were we raising funds for this time? Hurricane Sandy Relief. Why? During this time of the year, as we are completely immersed in the holiday season, most of us are worried about gluten-free Thanksgiving recipes or when it's socially acceptable to start decorating for Christmas. Okay, maybe that's just us. All jokes aside, as we continue on with our usual holiday routines, it is important to remember that thousands and thousands of those on the East coast do not even have a kitchen full of delicious food or a house to worry about decorating. This is why we decided to take a break from the holiday madness and spend an hour of our morning focusing on something much more important, by doing what we do best: SWEAT.
Our 45-minute circuit featured all the good stuff: kettlebells, froggers, mountain climbers, med ball partner push-ups, prowlers, yoga-abs, battle ropes, pull-ups - just to name a few! Who could forget Rommel's torturous finisher - a squat-intensive session that left everyone's thighs burning for the rest of the day. We're pretty sure the camera lost 5 pounds just watching it all happen!
To sum up our Hurricane Sandy Charity Bootcamp, here's a few things we learned:
The couple that sweats together, stays together!
Never rule out break-dancing from your typical Saturday routine.
You can strengthen your friendships AND your biceps simultaneously.
It's never too late to re-define the term, "hanging out".
Sometimes your trainer needs to make your legs feel like jello.
But sometimes your trainer needs to use you as a foot rest. And that's okay, too.
And, most of all, sometimes what you think is simply a membership to a gym, becomes a membership to your second family.
